Frequently Asked Questions
Dear Friend Letters is a seasonal handwritten exchange where participants receive four seasonal writing prompts throughout the year. From there, you’ll write a handwritten letter in response and mail it to Dear Friend Letters.
Once received, letters are sorted and redistributed, so that everyone who writes a letter receives one on the same theme, along with hand-crafted pieces from Dear Friends to further ground you in the season and the experience.
By joining, you gain access to a seasonal correspondence where participants collectively explore a theme over the course of each three-month season, with new seasons beginning in September, December, May, and June. You’ll receive a prompt along with handcrafted pieces. After sending your response back, a handwritten letter from another member will arrive in the mail, along with seasonal offerings from Dear Friend Letters.
Members will also be invited to read along with the season’s book club pick. At the end of each season, participants can join fellow correspondents for a digital gathering to reflect and discuss the suggested reading.
Absolutely not. In fact, our motto is imperfections welcome. In an age of AI writing, we believe it’s an act of creative rebellion to simply be human and write from the heart. This is not a performative experience; it’s about simply connecting on a human level.
One page or two. For some letters, just a few paragraphs are fine. You don't need to be formal about it, just respond the way you would to someone over drinks or coffee.
Spaces are limited, as we are building connections on a human scale, and each envelope includes handcrafted pieces to evoke the spirit of each prompt's theme and its place in the turning of the year.
While lost mail is rare, it can happen. If your letter doesn’t arrive to us, simply reach out and we’ll work with you to make it right.
Our goal is that everyone who writes a letter receives one in return. If something goes missing, we’ll ensure you’re still included in the exchange.
